More to Love: More Discussion about Weight

Premise: The Bachelor, Plus Sized

Last night was another episode of More to Love. We love watching this show but we hate all the discussion of weight. We know that sounds ironic because it is one of the main premises of the show. We just don’t understand, however, why the girls and even the bachelor must harp on their weight the entire time. We were hoping the show would just show another perspective. The girls on The Bachelor do not always discuss being skinny, so why should the girls on More to Love always discuss their obesity issues? There are audience members who are not overweight but just want to see a new perspective on TV and the discussion of weight may turn them off to this show. Just let the girls date this guy and fight with one another. That would be interesting enough. We are only saying this because it seems like the producers are prodding the weight issue and not the girls themselves.

Sigh…but now that we are done with that rant, it’s time to discuss the show. Last night was the one-on-one dates with the family. First up is Tali, our favorite. She is absolutely gorgeous and she has a great personality to match. She is the calmest one out of the bunch. If Luke does not pick her, he is a fool. But Tali is from Isreal and she is concerned that her family will not accept Luke because he is American. Her family, her aunt and uncle, do nothing to help this situation and even insist on discussing the possibility endlessly.

Next up was Mandy. Melissa, one of the other contestants, made Mandy cry before her date; while Melissa looked amused, we were not. But we are still not sure why Mandy was crying. We think it had something to do with the fact that Melissa kept asking her what her connection with Luke was, but we are still confused why that made her cry.

But the date! Mandy’s Mom and Dad showed up for the date on a yacht. Just in case the audience forgot this show is about overweight people, they were reminded when Mandy’s dad told Luke that when he eats a lot he has to work out and watch his calorie intake. Who says that in real life? Come on now! Mandy’s mom was no better. She told Luke that Mandy is not at all ready to get married. Hi, hater! She kept going on and on about it just in case Luke did not here it the first time.

Anna was the third date. Anna is a plus size model. She used to go bowling instead of swimming because she was overweight, just in case Fox has not pounded that into your head. For that reason, she was really excited to go bowling. She wore this weird shirt that looked like a backwards belly top where her shirt exposed the small of her back instead of her belly button. We could not get over the shirt and did not even pay attention to the date. We like Anna though, she is the Mary-Kate Olsen fashion risk-taker of the More to Love cast.

Melissa was the final date. We dislike Melissa with a passion. She is fake and we can see right through her. Her weirdly overprotective sisters were on the date. They told us that Melissa has always been a little bit thick but has gained a lot of weight in the last year. It was not enough for them to tell the audience that during the interviews though; they also told Luke that and asked if he was ok with it. Luke was just as confused as we were with that question. We also loved that her sisters tried to sabotage her. Having kids is important to Luke, but Melissa’s sisters said that Melissa hates kids and does not like to babysit her nieces and nephews. Instead of flat out denying this, Melissa said she would like her own flesh and blood and told that to Luke later. As if that would reassure him!

Luke also asked the sisters if they would give their blessing if he proposed. Of course, evil Melissa made this into a bigger deal than it was and told the other contestants about it. It’s a hypothetical, Melissa, chill out! He did not actually ask your sisters for their permission to marry you or even imply that he was going to ask. Melissa, you clearly do not understand the concept of hypotheticals, please do not go to law school or you will fail.

We ended with elimination time. We were hoping Melissa would go home but she got her ring first and Anna ended up leaving because she would be too busy with her plus size modeling career to get married and settle down.

We are praying that Luke sends Melissa home next week. We also praying that we will not have to hear the girls go on and on about their weight.
